Bowl Chaos System

November 1, 2010

by Ian Shapiro

The following is a guest article and does not necessarily reflect the views of The Honolulu Blue.

Ever been to a wedding? It involves a bride, groom, best man, maid of honor and some other randoms. Well that’s what the BCS is this year except instead of having everything set, there are still games left in the college football season left and much debate over who will meet as the so called bride and groom. Who will go to Arizona to play in the BCS National Championship game?

So, why not?

Fresh off pure domination in the Big House, I’ve come up with a new slogan for Sparta going forward.

Why not?

Izzo staying

June 16, 2010

I know, I’m late to the party.  But Tom Izzo will be staying at Michigan State as head basketball coach.  He held a press conference this evening saying he will be a lifer at State.

Izzo ‘still gathring’ amidst rumors and speculation

June 14, 2010

News broke last night from in the Cleveland Plain Dealer saying that Lebron James was ‘100 percent’ behind the hiring of Tom Izzo.

Later today, the paper seemed to once again reneg on their earlier reports in a story that said James will not get invovled with the process.

Earlier yesterday, Tom Izzo responded to numerous text messages from media basically saying he was “still gathering” and had not come to a decision yet.

Meanwhile, at the Breslin Center today, Tom Izzo was present for the first day of his annual basketball camp.  He arrived around 7:30AM, but was silent as he passed the mob of reporters.  Reporters were camped outside his office all day today, but no revelations were made.  In a speech to the campers, Izzo revealed no clues about his future.

You can still expect a decision this week, or you can perhaps expect no decision this week.  The only definitive news I have for you from a definitive first-hand source, is that Tom Izzo truthfully has not made a final decision yet.  He is employing the help of a wide array of friends, family, and industry professionals.

Sources: Izzo announcement ‘might’ be Monday

June 12, 2010

Michigan State head coach, for now, Tom Izzo will not be making a decision today regarding his future.  Previous reports in the Detroit Free Press and Cleveland Plain Dealer said the decision would come today, but The Cleveland Plain Dealer has since reneged, and sources told The Honolulu Blue that the decision will not be made until at least Monday.

From the Cleveland Plain Dealer:

At least several players left this meeting believing Izzo was going to accept the Cavs’ offer, a source told The Plain Dealer. Izzo told people Friday that he would come to a decision soon but that it wouldn’t be Saturday, according to sources. There is a general feeling among Michigan State officials that Izzo will either accept the Cavs job or finally turn it down by Monday.

We’re not sure exactly what “general feeling” means, but THB has confirmed that weighing heavy on Izzo’s mind is his daughter, who will be entering high school in the fall.  Considering how many swings and misses the Cleveland media has taken during this whole saga, I wouldn’t trust their “sources” nor would I worry just yet.

Big Ten sees Big Red, NCAA sees Big Green

June 11, 2010

Big Ten, Nebraska make for strange business bedfellows

by Mitch Albom

Listen. If this wasn’t about TV money, why go through this upheaval? If this wasn’t about adding a championship game so that you can bring in — ta-da — even more money, why worry about having 12 teams (the NCAA requirement for a football title game)? If this wasn’t about football and basketball and their huge payouts, why else would it matter? Do you really think the swim team wants to travel an extra 500 miles to jump in a pool?

Source: Izzo has not made a decision

June 10, 2010

Tom Izzo has not made a decision as to whether or not he will accept the Cleveland Cavaliers offer to become head coach.

This information comes from a source close to the situation.

This comes in direct conflict with a report from a Cleveland-based blog that reported Izzo informed his players he will be accepting the Cavaliers offer.  The Honolulu Blue joins Fox Sports and others in saying the report is completely inaccurate (seen here).
