Now I’m confused. I remembered this article, but not the author..Dan Shaughnessy. Do I owe the man an apology, or is this complete hypocrisy.
Shaughnessy made the case for why the Detroit Lions must play on Thanksgiving. Here’s some highlights:
You can make fun of the Lions if you want. Why not? Everybody does.
It’s like picking on the fat kid in gym class or laughing when somebody falls face first into a puddle.
Knock yourselves out. Enjoy the yucks. The Lions were 0-16 last year and are 2-8 this year.
Just don’t take away my Lions on Thanksgiving.
…Piling on the Lions is a parlor game across NFL America.
Now, compare that with his most recent statement about Detroit:
Think about it: For the next five weeks, you could live in downtown Boston and your wife could shop on Newbury Street. Or you could live in downtown Detroit, amid the boarded-up buildings and the proverbial skeleton frames of burned-out Chevrolets. Is this really a tough call?
Really. Why wouldn’t Damon come back to Boston?
Shaughnessy says its mean to pick on the fat kid, but then picks on the fat kid..
Yeah, no apology..this is hypocrisy. But a good article.
