Now I’m confused. I remembered this article, but not the author..Dan Shaughnessy. Do I owe the man an apology, or is this complete hypocrisy.
The Lions have moved rookie 3rd round pick Amari Spievey to Safety.
Johnny Damon did more Detroit defending in the wake of his decision to reject a deal to boston.
I want to start out with a sort of disclaimer. This column will likely mean nothing to Dan Shaughnessy. Hell, there’s a website with the sole purpose of highlighting his idiocy. This is more for the people of Detroit, and a statement to the witless and pompous journalists that have made a parlor game out of trashing the city of Detroit. I, by no means, have to poetic gifts of a Mitch Albom, or a Maureen Dowd (what have you, those are two of my favorites), but, this is what I can say.
As I’m sure most of you have heard by now, Dan Shaughnessy, emphasis on ASS-y, ripped the city of Detroit in a recent column. His words aren’t worth repeating…yet. Anyways, Johnny Damon defended his decision today. Click the link below. More on Dan Shaughnessy later.
Much has been said over the years about the expediency of a 4-out save. It is usually not until the playoffs, when a closer is brought in to get a big out in the eighth, then asked to pitch the ninth as well, that this managerial decision is highlighted. In 3 of Jose Valverde’s last 4 appearances, he has been called upon to get out(s) in the eighth inning, and then pitch the ninth. In the 46 games he appeared in before that, he recorded 4 or more outs just twice.
But in the wake of the disaster in Boston, Jim Leyland has doubled down this week in New York.
…albeit from a Yankee perspective, we’ll take it.
Long time friend of The Honolulu Blue and up and coming baseball writer Dan Podheiser of Nesn.com discussed Johnny Damon, Austin Jackson, Curtis Granderson, and others.
But by being forced to trade for Granderson, the Yankees gave up Jackson, who is on his way to a brilliant career in Detroit and is leading the way in the AL Rookie of the Year race.
Jackson is hitting .303 with 17 steals. He has struck out 123 times and only homered once, but you have to imagine that someone with as much ability as his will figure it out.

“Hey, the offensive linemen are the biggest guys on the field, they’re bigger than everybody else, and that’s what makes them the biggest guys on the field.”
