Wings aren’t buying “momentum” theory

Momentum has been fleeting in this Western Conference quarterfinal playoff series between the Detroit Red Wings and Phoenix Coyotes.

Just when one team thinks it has established some momentum, it disappears the next game. The clubs have alternated wins, resulting in a series tied 2-2 heading into Game 5 Friday at Jobing.com Arena.

“I don’t see there being any momentum either way,” Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said. “(Detroit Tigers manager) Jim Leyland always says momentum is as good as today’s starter. That’s hockey, too. I wouldn’t spend a whole lot of time worrying about that. You got to be able to play.”
