The Honolulu Blue’s 2010 Writing Contest


The Honolulu Blue and its friends are proud to announce the 2010 THB Writing Competition.  In time for a new baseball season, the writing contest deadline is Monday, April 12th, 2010 at 5p.m.

Partners include 35 Isn’t Enough, Bullpen Talk, and The Good Old Hockey Show

Contest basics:

  1. Writers will submit a 500-1,000 word article to a sports prompt (below).
  2. Writers will be judged by bloggers and journalists from various outlets.  The criteria will be as follows: depth of knowledge, clarity of writing, analytical skills, originality/creativity–each category is worth up to 25 points.
  3. The winner will receive the following: $50 cash prize, publication on 3 major blogs, including The Honolulu Blue, and opportunities to write in the future.
  4. Submissions must include the following: Full Name, Address, Telephone Number, Email Address
  5. Submissions may be sent to the following email: Wade_Fink@emerson.edu with the subject as “Contest”

Prompt: Tell the story of the 2010 World Series Champion Detroit Tigers. Consider what happened (needs to happen) over the course of the 2010 season that allowed them to make the playoffs and win the WS.  You have free reign in how to do this. 500-1000 words, due by Monday April 12, 2010 5p.m.  You will receive a response email that your submission was received.
