From the Free Press:
• Outfielder/designated hitter Carlos Guillen: Leyland held him out of today’s lineup. Guillen left Wednesday’s game after two innings with a hamstring cramp. “He’s a little tight yet today, so I’m not going to take any chances,” Leyland said. “He’ll be fine.”
• Catcher Gerald Laird: He will start at catcher Friday night in the opener of a two-game exhibition series in Milwaukee. Leyland said Laird “tweaked his groin” in a pregame drill Wednesday, and he has held the catcher out of the two games since. “Laird could have played today,” Leyland said. He said he wants Laird to catch starter Max Scherzer on Friday night so the two get more used to each other. “(Laird) really hasn’t caught Scherzer much,” Leyland said.
• Infielder/outfielder Ryan Raburn: “He’s got the flu,” Leyland said. “He’s home in bed, and he’s not going to fly with us (to Milwaukee tonight). He’ll fly to Milwaukee tomorrow. The doctor was afraid that if he got on the plane where it’s enclosed, everybody might get it.”
