Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer had a rough go his first few starts with the Tigers. He vowed to start pitching like it was a real start, and since, the results have been promising. After posting a 4-inning shutout against the New York Mets, Scherzer turned in 5 innings yesterday, allowing only 1 run on 4 hits and collected 4 K’s.
Brandon Inge told MLive, “I’ll tell you what, he’s a competitor, I might put him in there with Verlander. That guy wants to make every putt, every shot. They are peas in a pod, very similar. He’s an I-want-to-beat-you competitor.”
Austin Jackson went 3-4 with a pair of doubles. He also had a pretty double steal with Johnny Damon.
The Tigers defeated the Nationals 6-2.
“It was a pretty clean game,” Jim Leyland said.
