The highly touted defensive end out of Oklahoma severely disappointed scouts and draft experts on Sunday. Gerald McCoy was only able to complete 23 bench-press repetitions of 225 pounds. That was good for a ranking of 35 of 50 amongst defensive lineman at the combine. Ndamukong Suh, on the other hand, was able to complete 32 repetitions which was good for a ranking of 6 of 50.
The disappointing performance by McCoy suggests he has not kept in shape, or at least has not been hitting the weight room consistently since the end of Sooner season. This will definitely be a concern for suitors, who may look at this as a testament to McCoy’s work ethic. Look no further than what the Bengals went through with Andre Smith last year.
